| Discover the island on foot, horseback or by bicycle. In the winter,
390 inhabitants live on this jewel of 750 sunny hectares. Covered with
heather, the island is home to a fishing village just above the small
port named after Saint-Gildas, who spent several years on the island.
During the first Empire, the community depended on the village rector
who played many parts in the life of his town. He served as mayor, postman,
receiver for the fishermen's union, chief of the "armed force",
justice of the peace, notary public, tax collector, grocer and lighthouse
keeper.
