Christopher Columbus was overwhelmed by the beauty of
the island he called, "Hispaniola". Its
white sand beaches, lush forests, mountains and extremely
diversified vegetation make it the gorgeous island that
it is. Its warm, welcoming Latina people will prove
to you that five centuries later, it is still quite
an "overwhelmingly beautiful" place to visit.
What to see!
Santo Domingo, the era of the conquistadors is still
present in its buildings. The town was restored for
the 500th anniversary of the discovery of the island
by Columbus.
The island offers hundreds of miles of white sandy beaches
bordered by coconut trees. Don't miss the village of
Las Terenas.
The sea protected by barrier reefs which give it its
lovely turquoise color.
The diversity of its landscapes: the highest point in
the Antilles, the largest lake (lago Enriquillo)
Hispaniola naive painting, and its music the "merengue"
