The main department city in High-Corsica : Bastia is a real
economic capital and one of the most beautiful city of the island.
A city shared its economic growth as in harmony of nearest Caps
Corsica and the preservation of its rich past traces.
At the end of the PignoMassif, Bastia occupy a small northeast
Corsica bay and border line between Bigublia lowlands and first
Cap Corsica steep slope. |
| The most picturesque area of this old capital remains the delightful
old harbour. The coloured edged houses which remind a typical architecture,
Méditerrane sea and this old fishing port where belay about
300 pleasure boats today. Dominating group, nice St Jean Baptiste
church deserves a glance : his frontage baroque flanked by 2 turns
bell towers, his painting deceive our eyes, the polychrome high
altar marble, the pictures of the italien school... are worth so
that we stay there.

Before going up by alleyways and stairs of Terre Vecchia towards
Citadel and Donjon. A seplendid sight is waiting for the walker.On
this old port, on this first relief Cap.When we are passing, it's
necessary to stop in front of Gouverner Palace ( superb Ethnographic
Museum)and after make a stop on St Nicolas. |
| Sat down at the table and sipping a cream or a delightful local
Muscat, it allows to take the charm of this place broadly overshadowed
by the trees and by palms, where the retired men launch into parts
of petanque presevered. |
