| Habana Club rum is the major brand of the Cuban national drink, run
de Cuba. It is the basis for all Cuban cocktails.

Daiquiri, The iced cocktail (the ice becomes frothy by shaking
it) was created in the early 20th century in Oriente. Hemingway used to
order double daiquiris without sugar. In a shaker, mix the juice of one
lemon, some sugar, a shot of rum, a few drops of maraschino syrup and
some crushed ice. Give the shaker a good shake, and serve it in a daiquiri
glass.

Mojito is the most popular of Cuban aperitifs. It's very refreshing
and only moderately alcoholic. In a tall glass, mix together a teaspoon
of sugar (or sugar cane syrup) and the juice of a lime. Crush a few mint
leaves and add them to the drink along with a shot of rum and a few ice
cubes. Then fill the glass to the top with sparkling water. Don't forget
to put in a drink stirrer. La Bodeguita del Medio in Havana attracts tourists
from all over the world who come to drink a mojito in memory of Ernest
Hemingway.
Cuba Libre, a cocktail created in 1902, is made with a shot of rum, chilled
cola and a few drops of lime juice and served in a tall glass.
Throw in a few ice cubes and decorate the drink with a slice of lemon.
A Cuban martini, is made by putting six shots of rum into a shaker with
an ice strainer, one shot of dry vermouth and a touch of cane syrup. Shake
hard for about a minute, with ice cubes that have come straight from the
freezer and serve in a daiquiri glass with the zest of a lime cut out
in a spiral shape.
