Humanitarian Organizations
Despite the hard work of humanitarian organizations, the associations
and volunteers working in Cuba have their hands tied when it
comes to doing away with poverty and shortages completely. Each
one of us must lend a hand.
You can help too, even as a tourist. First off, by spending
your foreign currency on the island, but also by bringing with
you much needed basic necessities that are not available on
the Island.
Don't hesitate to over pack. Fill your bags to the brim (or
to the maximum weight allowed) with medicine for head and stomach
aches (antibiotics, paracetamol, diarrhea medicine, yeast, Mercurochrome,
aspirin). Most importantly, don't forget to bring sterile syringes
and rubber gloves in their packages (for births) and to deliver
them to a hospital, as these products do not exist in Cuba.
When you leave the Island, you can lighten your load by leaving
behind any clothes or bathroom supplies you have worn or used
while you were on holiday. |
