LODGING
A room in a state hotel costs between 50 and 140 dollars and
up, with your morning coffee included. But don't be afraid to
bargain. In Cuba, hotels and restaurants are government establishments.
The best way to go is by staying in the many Casas particulares
or
boarding houses that are availableat reasonable prices, starting
out at about 20 dollars for a double room. Staying in a boarding
house can be a wonderful experience as much for the location,
furnishings our history of the dwelling as for the generosity
of its owners. One thing is sure: by choosing this option, you
will be helping the family pay the monthly government tax of
150 dollars that allows them to welcome tourists into their
homes. Before you sign the register and turn in your passport
to get the key to your room, you are welcome to take a tour
of the place and discuss the conditions of your stay there.
Especially if someone recommended the place to you.
