DESHAIES

A little village, typical of the Caribbean, located northwest of Basse-Terre.

  This is one village that has managed to remain simple. And It has not let itself be taken over by mass tourism. It is undoubtedly the most peaceful village in all of Guadeloupe. So, If you're stressed out or high-strung then stay away! In this village Relaxation is King. The damage from the cyclone in 1999 is still visible in the village.

The village's wooden houses give it its unique appeal. Recently, some magnificent colonial-style houses have been built outside the center of the village which have only added to its charm.

A wonderful place for a day visit. A fantastic place to rent for a whole week! (or even two...)

Deshaies is near Grande Anse beach. Probably the most beautiful beach in the Basse-Terre region with its sheet metal shacks and the obvious absence of concrete. The locals love this beach, but it can be dangerous because of the strong undertow. And, Beware! Do not leave anything valuable in your car while you are at the beach...
