Located just north of Venice, Murano is the island of
glassblowers. On this island, you will have the unique opportunity
to watch the glassblowers at work, making such diverse objects
as vases, horses, etc. |
Azureva.com recommends the Fornace Artigiana "Aidogi",
at number 25 on your left, about 100 yards straight across
from the Murano Faro vaporetto stop. Not only will you be
able to buy glassware there, but you can watch the glassblowers
at work for free, which is not the case for all the glass
manufacturers on the island.
Then you can go for a visit at the Glass Museum (museo del Vetro).Your
ticket from Doges Palace in Venice gets you in free. You can find
out all about the history of glassblowing throughout the ages down
to the very last detail. |

While you're there, you might also like to take a ride
on Motoscafo number 52 to see the island, (Murano is much
bigger than Burano). But, if you
have some good walking shoes, and you're not to tired from
your sightseeing in Venice, walking down the banks of the
little canals can be a very pleasant way to spend an afternoon.
The canals will take you to, among other sites, the churches
of Santa Maria e Donato (one of the oldest churches in the
lagoon), and San Pietro Martire. |
