New Caledonia, expensive? Given the price of the plane ticket
(a minimum of between £600 and £950, depending on
which season you go) it's really not worth your while unless you
stay at least two weeks.
On this page you'll find ideas for itineraries for your budget
and schedule. As a general rule, you should count on £50
per day, (that's without the plane ticket, of course.)

You
plan to stay for 2 weeks:
The bare minimum... .£750 for hotels, food and spending
money, with the plane ticket( £600), your holiday will cost
you around £1350.
Day 1: Arrival at Noumea.
Get a room at the youth
hostel, take a walk around, sleep and get over the
jet-lag (11 or 12 hour time difference).
Day 2: Visit Noumea, reserve your plane
or boat ticket for the Isle of Pines for the next day to come
back two days later.
Day 3 to 5: get a room at the Gite in
Oure, at Kanumera Bay, visit the town, go to the beach... Take
a day trip to Vao and Oro Bay, the natural swimming pool, a pirogue
ride on Upi Bay, lunch Chez Regis (Oro
Bay), head back to Noumea.
Day 6: Hang around in Noumea, take a
walk to Vata Cove, then visit the Jean-Marie
Djibaou Center. Buy your ticket for Lifou (3 days)
for the next day.
Days 7 to 10: Lifou.
To the north, go see the the Doking
tribe, go see the cliffs, sleep in the tribal village
"Chez Georges", walk around, meet the kanak people.
Next day, go to Wé, the largest village, visit the village...
then go to Luengoni (south of Wé), sleep at Noël Pia's (tent or
cabin). Next day, fishing with
Noël, visit the underground caves, lagoon... return
trip to Noumea.
Day 11: Leave for Bourail,
and the "roche percée",
find a hotel or a camp site in Poé, near Poé beach. 12th day:
relax on the beach...
Day 13: travel across the "grande
terre" (main island) to Houaïlou, then return to Noumea.
Day 14: enjoy the lagoon and Noumea for
the last time...
15ème jour : It's already time to go!

plan to stay for a month: £1500
for hotels, food and spending money. With your plane ticket (about
£600), your holiday will cost you about £2100.
Day 1: Arrival at Noumea.
Get a room at the youth

for the next day.
Days 11 to 15: Lifou.
Days 16 to 18: Go to Bourail,
and then the "roche percée",
find a room in a hotel or a camp site in Poé, near Poé beach.
Enjoy Poé...
Day 19: Visit the west coast, and go
up to Poum.
20th and 21st day: Come back down by
the east coast, spend a night at Ponerihouen, then Thio, Boulouparis,
and back to Noumea...
Days 22 to 26: Go to Maré, visit Tadine,
the natural aquarium, Wakone (East coast), then the Northern coast.
Day 27th: Return to Noumea, go to Kuendu
beach, have a night out, drink some Kava...
Days 28 and 29:go see the south, Yaté
lake, the red lands with its indigenous plants. Make your way
to Goro, and spend the night there and then return to Nouméa.
Day 30: Get ready for take-off!
You
plan to stay for two months:
Stay twice as long in each place and make sure you visit Ouvea
too!

Congratulations, you have fallen in love with this beautiful
island! Enjoy yourself, but find a job fast... paradise has a
(high) price. (Try the temporary job agencies. It's always a foot
in the door.)
