| With
its nearly 700,000 inhabitants
the capitol of Andalusia is located right in the middle of the fertile
Guadalquivir plain. A city of lights, Seville opens its hospitable arms
and offers its wonderful splendors to visitors.
The city was on the forefront of the international scene twice in the
20th century. The first time was in 1929 for the Ibero-American world's
fair, and the second in 1992 for the Universal Exhibition.
The point of departure for the famous conquistador Christopher Columbus,
the city has brilliantly demonstrated its ability to mix its illustrious
history with modernism. You'll have a wonderful time strolling through
its many parks and public gardens. On foot or in a horse and buggy, you'll
uncover the warmth and splendor of its houses, of its patios and the "barrio"
surrounding the Feria or fairgrounds.
You'll admire the Guadalquivir river and the "del Oro" Tower,
and the magnificent Giralda, the monument that was so dear to Christopher
Columbus.
You can begin your visit to Seville with the historic district of the
city, located on the left bank of the river. The districts of Santa-Cruz,
San-Lorenzo and El Arenal are located there.
Taking a tour of the town in a horse and buggy is a good way of getting
your bearings in town. Even if there is a fixed price posted, you're better
off setting down a price with the driver before you get in the buggy. |
