| Kas, located 18 miles from Kalkan, is a very original little village
of 5000 people. Its shops, cafés,
and restaurants are grouped together around the square in front of the
mosque. In this charming little fishing port you'll find just as many
tourist yachts as small boats owned by local fishermen. Indeed, people
do not come to kas for its pebbly beaches, but rather because the village
is a tourist port for a number of very exciting sea excursions. From Kas
you can go out for the day to the ,
archeological site of Kekova with its Lycian
tombs (2 hour crossing).
You can also hop on a boat and spend your day at Kastellorizo, the Greek
Island which can be seen from the port of Kas. (Don't forget your passport).
At the end of your day, take a walk to the ruins of Antiphellos, where
you can feast your eyes on a very large Lycian sarcophagus. To get there,
take the street that goes to the top of the hill, to the left of the tourist
office.
Lodging:
You shouldn't have any problem finding a place to stay. As soon
as you get off the bus, people will be coming at you from all
sides to offer you a room (like they did to us). You should ask
to visit the room. Don't hesitate to negotiate (nicely) the price
of the room.
There are also about a dozen hotels available. |
